About ETV

About the MyETV.org Web Portal
This site is produced and maintained by the South Carolina Educational Television Commission.

Please e-mail the webmaster, John Derrick, with your comments and suggestions about the site or any problems you may encounter while visiting the MyETV.org portal. We're especially interested in solving any problems related to the accessibility of the site.

Accessibility: An estimated 810,857 South Carolinians over the age of five have a disability.

In 1998, Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require Federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily.

Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals.

After three years of work, the Web Accessibility Workgroup of the Assistive Technology Advisory Committee (ATAC) wrote and presented to the state's Architecture Oversight Committee (AOC) a Web Accessibility Policy for the State of South Carolina, which was approved in July 2004.

The new accessibility policy, which gives state agencies two years to bring their Web sites into compliance, states, in part:

"The State of South Carolina is committed to providing accessibility to state government Internet-based resources. South Carolina state government Web sites shall be designed to be accessible, so that people with disabilities have access to online information, data, and services comparable to that accorded individuals who do not have disabilities."

ETV is proud to have played a major role in the creation and passage of the state's accessibility policy and that the new MyETV.org Web portal was designed to be accessible to all citizens. We are especially grateful to the site testers for helping us to achieve compliance and improve the usability of the site in general.

Browsers supported: This Web site is designed to be usable on a wide range of browsers and operating systems. Some features will be missing or inoperable on browsers that don't support them. For best results, we recommend using the latest version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape (or other Mozilla-based browsers, such as Firefox). These are all free downloads.
