Hap Griffin

Vice President, Engineering

Hap Griffin Hap Griffin has worked in various areas of the Engineering Department at South Carolina Educational Television since February 1978.

Griffin began his career at SCETV as a studio engineer at WRJA in Sumter, later moving to the WRJA transmitter site as a transmitter engineer and then was promoted to transmitter supervisor. In 1989, Griffin came to Columbia to work as an engineering project manager where he was responsible for building a new radio station in Aiken and replacing the television transmitters in Charleston and Greenville. In 1992, he became manager of transmitter operations and was responsible for the maintenance of SCETV's 11 television stations and eight radio stations as well as all satellite uplink operations.

Griffin was promoted to assistant vice president for engineering in 1995 and to vice president for engineering in 1997. His current duties include the management of nearly 100 engineering staff statewide and the planning and implementation of ETV's Digital television build-out. From October 2000 until September 2001, Griffin served as one of three agency vice presidents who led the organization in the “Office of the President” following the unexpected death of SCETV’s president.

Griffin lives in Sumter and commutes to work in Columbia each day. He is married to Etna Griffin and has two children, Collin and Courtney. His many hobbies include astronomical photography, ham radio, collecting music from the 60s and 70s, playing guitar, building and flying high power rockets, and riding off-road motorcycles.

Griffin holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the South Carolina Executive Institute. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in South Carolina.
