Ray Sharpe
Director of Governmental/Community Relations
In 2004, Ray Sharpe was named ETV's Director of Governmental/Community Relations. Ray's primary duties include serving as liaison with the South Carolina General Assembly and building grassroots support for ETV in our state.
Ray has over 25 years experience in South Carolina State Government, starting his career as a legislative assistant in the South Carolina State Senate.
For twelve years, Ray worked in various positions with the South Carolina Public Service Commission (PSC) last serving as a Senior Rate Analyst. During his tenure at the PSC, Ray served as a member of the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners (NARUC) Water Committee, the NARUC Electric Committee and was named the 1996 PSC Employee of the Year.
Mr. Sharpe served the South Carolina Budget and Control Board for almost seven years as an insurance auditor and served as an insurance liaison for South Carolina state retirees. In the year 2000, Ray was named manager of the South Carolina Seniors Prescription Drug Program, which became known locally and nationwide as the SILVERxCARD program. This major initiative from Governor Jim Hodges' administration paid approximately 16.1 million dollars in drug claims for needy South Carolina seniors during its first year alone.
Mr. Sharpe received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 1983. In 1989, Ray received a certificate as part of the Annual Regulatory Studies Program from the Graduate School of Business Administration and Executive Programs, Michigan State University. In 2001, Ray earned the designation as a Manage Care Specialist, Health Insurance Association of America.
Ray has served his local community as a member of the City of Cayce's ACT Committee and served on its Solid Waste Advisory Board, which implemented the first recycling program in Lexington County. Currently, Ray serves as a trustee on the Lexington County Library Board, appointed by Lexington County Council Chairman Todd Cullum.
Ray resides in Cayce and is married to the former April Bragg of Whitmire, South Carolina. They have two sons.
