2005 Master Teachers.

Ida D. WidemanIda D. Wideman

Ida teaches 8th grade science at St. Andrews Middle School in Columbia. SC State University awarded her a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She earned her MAT in Natural Science from the University of South Carolina.

Ida has been named Teacher of the Year at St. Andrews. She is the chairperson of the school Science Department and an 8th grade team leader. She is an adjunct professor at SC State University and past president of the SC Earth Science Teachers Association. She has been a workshop presenter nationally and locally, has been a National Science Foundation grant panelist, and has overseen grants awarded by NSF. Ida has been a Disciplinary Literacy Facilitator for Richland School District 1 and participated in Benedict College’s Science Teacher—21st Century Program.

2004 Master Teachers.

Rachel WillisRachel Willis

Rachel teaches first grade and is the part-time coordinator of the Family Literacy program at Fennell Elementary School in Yemassee, SC. Rachel has 20 years of teaching experience in kindergarten and first and second grade.

Rachel earned her B.A. in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. Rachel is pursuing a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University.

An avid reader, Rachel is a member of her school’s grant writing team.

2003 Master Teachers.

Pam Williams Pam Williams

A member of the teaching profession for the last 13 years, Pam teaches biology, physical science, environmental science and botany at Greenwood High School. She has been part of the faculty at Greenwood High for the last eight years and prior to that taught at Garrett High School in Charleston and at a private school. She is currently working on her master's degree in geology through Mississippi State University and is waiting for her National Board Certification scores. Last year she was named Teacher of the Year at Greenwood High.

2002 Master Teachers.

Marsha WoodMarsha Wood

An eighth grade language arts teacher at Gaffney Middle School, Marsha earned her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN. She taught in Memphis, TN, before moving to Gaffney. Along with her accomplishments in the classroom, Marsha has organized field day programs, coached academic teams, and is currently working with the "Battle of the Brains" at Gaffney Middle.

1999 Master Teachers.

Judy WiengesJudy Wienges

Judy teaches sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade science and horticulture at John Ford Middle School in St. Matthews. During her 32 years as a teacher, she has chaired the science departments at John Ford Middle, Thomas Sumter Academy, and Calhoun County High School. Judy has coordinated the school science fairs at John Ford Middle and Thomas Sumter Academy. She has participated in the PSI Net and Agriculture in the Classroom in South Carolina Elementary School Teacher Workshop. She is a consultant for elementary science teachers in Calhoun County.

Named "Teacher of the Year" at Thomas Sumter Academy, Judy earned an AB degree at St. Andrews Presbyterian College and her master's degree at Appalachian State University. She is a member of the SC Science Council and is a CLI teacher.

1998 Master Teachers.

Bill WillardBill Willard

Bill Willard teaches physical science and physics for the technologies at Seneca High School. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Clemson University in physics with a minor in history. He has been teaching for 13 years.

In addition to being the head of the Science Department at Seneca High School, Bill chaired a district-wide committee for the "High Schools That Work" plan, created for the Oconee school district. He has been a presenter at the Southern Region Education Board annual conference and the South Carolina Department of Vocational Education.
