Why this poll is "groundbreaking"

Only one survey in recent years has examined African Americans in sizable numbers as a voting constituency and none have examined the opinions of this understudied population in terms of getting a significant sketch of African American attitudes and a snapshot of life as seen through the eyes of African Americans in South Carolina.

Why a poll of African Americans

A comprehensive look at the constituency that makes up 50 percent or more of the Democratic presidential primary vote is a fresh angle in the horserace to the nomination. Additionally, this poll closely matches Winthrop's and ETV's missions. We live in a state that is nearly 30 percent African American. Over 27 percent of the over-18 population in SC is African American and Winthrop and ETV are dedicated to reflecting that valuable diversity. Since respect and knowledge go hand in hand, it is incumbent upon public institutions of higher learning and a SC state agency with education in its name, to learn about understudied groups within the population. In this way, Winthrop and ETV are at the forefront in the state for seeking and serving diversity and knowledge
